On May 3, 1978, at 12:33 PM,
he used ARPANET (the predecessor of the Internet in the United States) to send
an email to around 400 people.
The email was intended to
promote a new computer product from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC).
Many recipients disliked it
because it was unsolicited and sent without permission.
This incident is regarded as
the world's first spam email, marking the beginning of the era of spam or
unsolicited messages on the Internet.
