On 1 September, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources introduced a special incentive package to encourage rooftop solar installations with battery storage.
Here's what it means for eligible consumers:
Tk 10.50 per kWh will be paid for surplus electricity exported to the national grid.
The guaranteed rate will remain valid for three years, until 28 February 2030.
Solar systems must be installed and connected to the grid on or before 28 February 2027 to qualify.
Payments will be transferred directly to a verified bank account or MFS account such as bKash or Nagad.
The process will be managed through local electricity distribution utilities and the Power Division's One Stop Service Centre.
This policy gives businesses an opportunity to generate their own electricity while earning from unused daytime solar power through the net metering system.
