The Epson DS-870 is a sheet-fed scanner that can scan in color in one pass. It has an optical resolution of 600 dpi and a maximum resolution of 1200 dpi, and it employs a Color CIS sensor. For monochrome scans, the scanner offers 30-bit internal and 24-bit external color and grayscale scan modes, as well as 10-bit input and 1-bit output. It has an output resolution of 50 to 1200 dpi and effective pixels of 5100 x 9300. The scanner has a three-color RGB LED light source and can scan at 65 ppm/130 ipm for 200 and 300 dpi black-and-white, color, and grayscale scans and 16 ppm/32 ipm for 400 and 600 dpi scans. The automated document feeder can handle page sizes ranging from 2" x 2" to 8.5" x 240" at 200 dpi and 8.5" x 215" at 300 dpi. It can emboss cards with thicknesses of less than 1.24 mm and paper weights ranging from 27 to 413 g/m2. The scanner is reliable for high-volume scanning applications, with a maximum daily duty cycle of 7,000 pages. It has a small footprint, measuring 11.6" x 8.3" x 8.5" (W x D x H) and weighing 7.9 lb. The Epson DS-870 Color Duplex Document Scanner has a Kensington-type lock for security and supports a variety of scan features such as rigid plastic ID card scanning (including embossed cards), business card scanning, oversized folded document scanning with an optional carrier sheet, and an ultrasonic double-feed detection system.
